Relinquishment


Relinquishment by Penelope Wilcock is an extraordinarily meaningful book, and a great follow-on from her earlier book, In Celebration of Simplicity. Relinquishment comes at such a critical moment in time, and is all too pertinent for us, right now, especially with all the depressing statistics on global warming and sustainability currently available.

Everyone needs convincing that simplicity and relinquishment are necessary parts of the Christian life to love and protect God’s earth; and also to love one’s neighbor...who might be an exploited factory worker in a different country. Penelope stresses the importance of ensuring our choices express the values of Jesus.

The author explains in detail the different means of relinquishing, including such topics as renouncing self-importance, relinquishing neediness, relinquishing accumulation...to name just a few. She explains how all this brings us closer to God, the Creator, God the Redeemer, and God the Sustainer.

 To continue from my introduction... Now what....now that I believe?? That was my question, probably the biggest question I have ever asked myself. Do I need to find a church as soon as possible? The Introduction

  The Introduction I would like to spend a few minutes introducing myself. My name is Victoria Pendleton, and I’m originally from Lancashire, England. I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when I turned 30, and there I lived for 10 cold years haha. Next, I moved to Arizona, where the sun shines almost every day. I liked the sun, so I stayed and have been here ever since. I have two adult daughters and a grandson, who all live close by. I also have a goat named Billy, and a pig named Bacon...my usually friendly outdoor pets. I keep chickens and ducks for the eggs. Duck eggs are the best! My indoor pets include a tiny dog named Pickles, and a cat called Penelope. I’m sure there are quite a few ‘pet’ spiders in the house too, but I don’t really want to talk about that.
