Relinquishment, by Penelope Wilcock

Image
Relinquishment Relinquishment by Penelope Wilcock is an extraordinarily meaningful book, and a great follow-on from her earlier book, In Celebration of Simplicity. Relinquishment comes at such a critical moment in time, and is all too pertinent for us, right now, especially with all the depressing statistics on global warming and sustainability currently available. Everyone needs convincing that simplicity and relinquishment are necessary parts of the Christian life to love and protect God’s earth; and also to love one’s neighbor...who might be an exploited factory worker in a different country. Penelope stresses the importance of ensuring our choices express the values of Jesus. The author explains in detail the different means of relinquishing, including such topics as renouncing self-importance, relinquishing neediness, relinquishing accumulation...to name just a few. She explains how all this brings us closer to God, the Creator, God the Redeemer, and God the Sustainer. Than...

After my Conversion from Atheism

Image
To continue from my introduction... Now what....now that I believe?? That was my question, probably the biggest question I have ever asked myself. Do I need to find a church as soon as possible? Do I need to call someone, but who? Should I dash out and buy a Bible? Maybe do a Google search? I decided to go with the Google search - “How do I receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior?” Plenty of results appear with different prayers to say. Basically, you need to believe in Jesus, and then say it in whichever way feels most meaningful to you. This is usually a personal and private step where a person accepts Jesus into their heart and life. Romans 10: 9-10 - Because if you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and in your heart you have faith that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Trusting with the heart leads to righteousness, and confessing with the mouth leads to salvation. So that is what I did, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and as my Savior. And then, according to scri...

What the Bible means to me...

Image
This is a link to the one and only article I have ever written. It’s short but to the point...yet it doesn’t even begin to describe what the Bible means to me. Hence the blog.                                                             https://atoday.org/the-bible-as-a-divine-abstract-art/ And here is the rough draft before it was edited and published : Thoughts on the Bible - A Personal Epiphany Can the Bible be thought of as abstract and abstruse, the same way as an abstract painting or sculpture? In my personal opinion, it seems that it is so, mostly because the Bible means so many different things to different people. Hence all the distinctive churches and denominations, from Catholics to Evangelicals, from Jehovah’s Witnesses to Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists to Southern Baptists, and so on and so forth. Interpretation, by...

The Introduction

Image
The Introduction I would like to spend a few minutes introducing myself. My name is Victoria Pendleton, and I’m originally from Lancashire, England. I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when I turned 30, and there I lived for 10 cold years haha. Next, I moved to Arizona, where the sun shines almost every day. I liked the sun, so I stayed and have been here ever since. I have two adult daughters and a grandson, who all live close by. I also have a goat named Billy, and a pig named Bacon...my usually friendly outdoor pets. I keep chickens and ducks for the eggs. Duck eggs are the best! My indoor pets include a tiny dog named Pickles, and a cat called Penelope. I’m sure there are quite a few ‘pet’ spiders in the house too, but I don’t really want to talk about that. I was born and raised a Catholic. I went to an all-girls Catholic School and was taught by nuns. By the time I was sixteen, I had stopped attending church. In my late teens I started church hopping, but never really found that ‘...
